Shopify Development Companies in Canada: An Honest Shortlist (2026)

If you search for a Shopify development company in Canada, you get directory pages and lists where every agency ranks itself first. We are an agency, so we are biased too. The difference here is that we will tell you which of these companies to call instead of us, because for a lot of projects someone else is the better fit.
Everything below was checked against each company’s own website and its Shopify Partner Directory listing in September 2026. Where a company has a Shopify Partner Directory profile, its name links there so you can read the tier and reviews for yourself. Tiers, offices and pricing change, so confirm before you sign anything.
The Short Answer
- Enterprise retailer with a six-figure build budget: Diff, Northern or Novatize.
- Complex B2B, wholesale or distribution catalog on Plus: Makro or Novatize.
- Migration off Magento with ERP work, on the West Coast: Port80.
- Omnichannel retail with POS, ERP and PIM in the mix: Blue Badger.
- Quebec fashion or retail brand that wants a bilingual team: Le Site or Blue Badger.
- DTC wellness or lifestyle brand in BC: Good Commerce.
- You want one agency for the store, SEO and ads: Kinex Media.
- You want to work directly with the developers, on a custom app, a migration or a store that has outgrown its setup, without an enterprise retainer: that is us.
How We Picked
We limited the list to companies headquartered in Canada that do client work on Shopify and show named clients on their own site. We left out agencies whose Shopify page is one service line among twenty with no work to back it up. We did not accept payment or trade placements, and nobody on this list knows they are on it.

The Companies
Diff
Diff is the name most Canadian ecommerce people think of first. It has been a Shopify partner since 2011, holds a Platinum listing in the directory with fifty five-star reviews, and shows work for brands like Kith, Sakara Life and Rudsak. One thing worth knowing: its directory profile now lists it as part of WPP Enterprise Solutions, so you are hiring a unit of a global holding company, with the process and pricing that implies. Their listing states projects start from $25,000.
Pick Diff if you are a large brand that needs subscriptions, heavy customization and integrations with systems like SAP or Dynamics, and you want an agency your board has heard of.
Makro
Makro is a Shopify Plus Premier Partner based in Montreal that also markets to Toronto and Vancouver. Their site says plainly that they build on Shopify only. The client list leans industrial and wholesale, with names like Ennis Fabrics, NewPro Containers and Wire America, which tells you they are comfortable with large catalogs and B2B ordering. The directory lists their services from $5,000.
Pick Makro if you sell to other businesses, have a complicated catalog, and are on or heading to Plus.
Port80
Port80 in Vancouver calls itself Canada’s first Shopify Premier Partner and has 21 five-star reviews in the directory. They work on Shopify and Magento, and their case studies centre on platform migrations and ERP integrations for retailers like Erik’s Bike Board & Ski.
Pick Port80 if you are leaving Magento, your data is messy, and you want a West Coast team.
Blue Badger
Blue Badger is a Montreal agency with a Platinum directory listing. Beyond Shopify they work with Adobe Commerce, Akeneo for product information, Klaviyo and Gorgias. Named clients include Suzy Shier, Stokes and Attitude, all retailers with physical stores, and their positioning is unified commerce: one system across online, POS and back office.
Pick Blue Badger if you run stores as well as a site and the hard part of your project is getting POS, ERP and product data to agree.
Novatize
Novatize is based in Quebec City with offices in Montreal and New York. They describe themselves as a Shopify Plus partner and also work on Adobe Commerce. The client list is the most corporate on this page: Michelin, Simons, Via Rail and Baffin. Their focus is B2B digital transformation, which means strategy and change management alongside the build.
Pick Novatize if you are an established company moving a B2B sales process online and need consulting as much as development.
Kinex Media
Kinex Media is a full-service digital agency in Mississauga with a Plus-tier directory listing. Shopify is one of several platforms they build on, next to Magento and headless setups, and they sell SEO and paid media alongside development. They publish their pricing, which we respect: advanced ecommerce sites are quoted at $35,000 to $70,000 and up. Their case studies cite Staples and Amerijet.
Pick Kinex if you want a single vendor for the build and the marketing, and you have the budget for a larger team.
Northern
Northern, formerly Northern Commerce, is headquartered in London, Ontario with a Toronto office. They now operate at northern.co, and the old Northern Commerce domain no longer works. They are a multi-platform enterprise agency partnered with Adobe, Salesforce, BigCommerce and Shopify, with clients such as Canadian Tire, Cineplex, Jysk and Rexall. We could not find a Shopify Partner Directory tier for them, which fits: Shopify is one option they offer, not their identity.
Pick Northern if you are a national retailer who has not yet decided on a platform and wants an agency that can argue for more than one.
Good Commerce
Good Commerce is a Shopify-specialized studio in Vancouver that reports more than 72 stores built. The portfolio is DTC health, wellness and lifestyle, including Halfmoon, and they offer digital marketing with the build.
Pick Good Commerce if you are a consumer brand in that space and want a small team that knows your category.
Le Site
Le Site is a Montreal agency with more than 150 projects delivered across Shopify, Magento and WordPress. Their Shopify work shows fashion and retail names like Moose Knuckles, Corbeil and Orage, with migration as a recurring theme.
Pick Le Site if you are a Quebec retailer who wants to work in French and is replatforming from Magento.
Victoria Garland Creative (that’s us)
We are a small Shopify-only studio in Fergus, Ontario, building on the platform since 2012, with engineering time inside Shopify itself. We are a registered Shopify Partner, not a Premier or Platinum one. Those tiers reward the number of merchants an agency signs up, and we take on a handful of projects at a time.
What we are good at is the technical work that themes and apps can’t do. We have three apps of our own live on the Shopify App Store, so we maintain production software on the platform through every API version. For Swiss Water we automated order routing across a multi-vendor marketplace. For OYM Sportswear we replatformed a rebrand in a week. Most of our work is custom apps, migrations, integrations and stores that have outgrown the way they were first built. You talk to the person writing the code, and you get a fixed quote before any of it runs.
Do not pick us if you need a twenty-person team, a big-name agency for internal politics, brand strategy and photography alongside the build, or a French-language project team. Several companies above are a better fit for each of those.
Two Names You Will See That Are Not Agencies
Pixel Union in Victoria and Bold Commerce in Winnipeg show up in most lists of Canadian Shopify companies. Both are excellent and both are product companies. Pixel Union makes premium themes, and Bold builds checkout and subscription software. You may well end up using their products, but they are not who you hire to build your store.
How to Choose
Match the agency’s size to your project’s size. A Platinum partner will take a $15,000 project, and it will be the smallest thing in their pipeline. A small studio will take a national retailer’s replatform, and it will swamp them. Look for case studies with stores about your size.
Ask who does the work. At larger agencies the people in the pitch are rarely the people in the code. Ask to meet the lead developer before you sign.
Decide whether you want a specialist or a generalist. Multi-platform agencies give balanced platform advice. Shopify-only shops go deeper on the platform itself. We wrote more on that trade-off in Shopify specialist vs generalist agency.
Get the pricing model in writing. Fixed quote, time and materials, or retainer. Each is fine, and surprises come from not knowing which one you agreed to. Our post on what a custom Shopify store costs has realistic ranges.
Check the partner directory yourself. The Shopify Partner Directory shows tier, reviews and how long a company has been a partner. If you are weighing a smaller team against a solo developer, read agency vs freelancer as well.
If your project sounds like the kind we described under our own name, tell us about it. If it sounds like one of the others, call them, and we hope it goes well.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much does a Shopify development company in Canada charge?
It depends on the tier of agency. Smaller specialist studios, including ours, typically quote CA$3,000 to CA$8,000 for theme customization and CA$10,000 to CA$30,000 for a custom build. Mid-size agencies publish starting points around $5,000 per service, enterprise agencies start around $25,000, and full enterprise ecommerce builds are quoted at $35,000 to $70,000 and up.
What is the difference between a Shopify Partner, a Plus Partner and a Premier or Platinum Partner?
Any agency can register as a Shopify Partner. The higher tiers in the Shopify Partner Directory (Plus, Premier, Platinum) reflect the volume and size of merchants an agency has brought to Shopify, along with reviews and certifications. A high tier tells you an agency works at enterprise scale. It does not tell you who will write your code or whether the agency fits a smaller project.
Should I hire a Canadian Shopify agency or go offshore?
For a simple theme setup, location matters little. For anything involving Canadian tax, duties, bilingual storefronts, Canada Post and domestic carriers, or integrations with your accounting and ERP systems, an agency that has dealt with those before saves real time. Working hours and a contract under Canadian law are practical advantages too.
Do I need a Shopify Plus partner if I am not on Plus?
No. Plus partner status matters when you need checkout customization, expansion stores, or enterprise integrations. If you are on Basic, Grow or Advanced, look for an agency whose portfolio has stores the same size as yours, because that is the work they are set up to do well.
