Half Heard - Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 4, 2026. Policy version 1.0. This policy covers the Half Heard app for iPhone (iOS 18 or later), published by Victoria Garland Creative Inc. It is short because the app is built to collect nothing.
The short version. Half Heard collects nothing about you. It has no accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking, and no third-party code of any kind. It does not send your listening, your settings, your drift marks or anything else to us. We receive no data about you from the app. There is nothing to sell, share or breach, because nothing is collected.
What the app sends, and to whom. A podcast player has to fetch podcasts. The app makes three kinds of network request, and none of them reach us. Podcast search: when you search for a show, the app sends your typed search term to Apple’s iTunes Search API, and Apple’s servers see your IP address as they would for any internet request; Apple’s own privacy policy governs that request. Subscribing and downloading: when you subscribe to a show or download an episode, the app requests the show’s feed and audio files from that show’s own hosting servers, which see your IP address and a user-agent string, as they would from any podcast app. We do not control those servers, and their operators’ own privacy policies apply to what they log. Purchases: subscriptions and the lifetime purchase are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your payment details, and Apple gives us no account information about you. That is the complete list. There is no telemetry, no crash-reporting service, and no server of ours for the app to talk to.
What stays on your phone. Everything the app knows lives only on your device: your subscriptions, downloaded episodes, queue, settings, drift marks, listening history, and the night diary (the plain-English record of what the app did each night, shown on its diagnostics screen). None of it is transmitted anywhere. There is no sync, no backup to our servers, and no copy we could hand over, because none exists.
Deleting your data. Deleting the app deletes all of it. Because none of it ever leaves your phone, removing the app is the complete deletion path: there is no account to close and nothing for us to erase on our side. Inside the app, Settings shows how much space downloads take and lets you remove them, and the diagnostics screen can clear the night diary on its own.
Sharing you choose to do. Three features can send data off the device, and each is a share sheet you open yourself, choosing the destination. The morning card can be shared as an image; it shows the episode, when you drifted off, and where to pick the story back up. OPML export produces a file listing your subscribed shows, for moving to another podcast app. The diagnostics export packages the night diary so you can send it to support. It contains the diary’s event log (which can include episode titles), the app version, your iOS version and your device model, and nothing that identifies the device. The app shows you the whole report before anything is sent, and nothing is sent automatically.
If you email support. If you write to support@victoriagarland.ca, we keep your email and any attachments (such as a diagnostics export) only as long as needed to resolve your issue. You can ask at any time for your correspondence to be deleted, and we will delete it.
Regulatory notes. The app sets no cookies, uses no advertising identifiers, and serves no advertising. For the requests described above, Apple (for search and purchases) and each podcast’s hosting provider (for feeds and downloads) act as independent controllers of the data those requests carry; we neither receive nor process it. Because we hold no data about you, requests to access, correct, port or delete personal data will ordinarily have nothing to act on, but you are welcome to ask and we will answer plainly. The app’s licence terms are Apple’s standard End User Licence Agreement; see also the Half Heard terms.
Children. Half Heard is a sleep app for adults who listen to podcasts and is not directed at children.
Changes. If this policy changes, for instance if a future version of the app makes a new kind of network request, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date and version number.
