Half Heard - Support

Reach a human. Email support@victoriagarland.ca with whatever went wrong, in your own words. Half Heard is made by a very small team and support is answered by the people who built it; there is no ticket system and no chatbot, so please allow a few days rather than a few hours for a reply.

First, ask the app what happened. The single most useful step: in the app, open Settings and then the diagnostics screen. It shows what happened last night in plain English, every engine event, recorded on the phone as the night diary. If the audio stopped, resumed, or ended early, the diary usually says exactly when and why. You can export the diary from that screen and attach it to your email, which is the fastest way to a useful answer. Send to support shows you the whole report first, with an account of what is in it, and nothing leaves your phone until you choose where to send it. The report holds the app version, the iOS version and what kind of device this is (not its name), the date and clock time of every entry, one line for each thing the app did, and the notes beside them, which can include the titles of the episodes the app lined up for the night. Read it before you send it anywhere.

Nothing was downloaded at bedtime. Playback is download-only by design: nothing streams mid-night, so a flaky connection cannot interrupt the trail-off. That means an episode has to be on the phone before the night begins. Opening the app in the evening quietly downloads the newest episodes of your shows, or pick an episode and it downloads then. If the app was not opened that evening, there may be nothing new waiting.

The audio stopped after my alarm, or a phone call. iOS ends some audio sessions outright, an alarm or a call can take the output and not give it back, and it does not allow an app to resume silently afterwards in every case. When Half Heard is allowed to recover it always comes back quietly and re-ramps; nothing ever resumes at the level it left. Either way, the night diary will say what happened and when.

The fade never started. Check that the night was actually armed before you put the phone down; an episode merely playing is not an armed night. When a night is armed, the countdown shows on the Lock Screen, so a missing countdown is the giveaway.

I bought Plus on my old phone. Your purchase belongs to your Apple Account, not the handset. On the new phone, open Settings in the app and choose Restore purchases.

How do I cancel, or get a refund? Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us. Cancel in iOS Settings, under your name, then Subscriptions; the subscription renews until cancelled there. Refunds are also Apple’s to grant, at Apple’s Report a Problem page.

How do I delete my data? Delete the app. Everything, your library, drift marks and the night diary, lives on the phone, so removing the app removes all of it. There is no account to close and no server copy to chase. The privacy policy says the same thing at more length.

Rights holders and everything else. Publishers who would rather Half Heard did not fetch their feed should see the terms; a plain email to the same address is enough. Questions about data are answered on the privacy page.
