Shopify B2B and Wholesale Setup

Sell to retailers, cafés, and distributors from the same Shopify store as your DTC customers. Company accounts, wholesale price lists, payment terms, and invoicing, set up properly.

  • Company accounts
  • Wholesale price lists
  • Net payment terms
  • Quantity rules
  • Quick order forms
  • Invoicing

Most wholesale on Shopify starts as a workaround. A discount code for retailers. Orders taken by email and keyed in as drafts. A spreadsheet of who gets which price. It works for the first five accounts and falls apart at twenty.

Shopify’s native B2B features replace the workarounds, and most of them are now available on every Shopify plan, not just Plus. We’re a Shopify-focused agency with 14+ years on the platform, and we set B2B up properly on the store you already have.

What We Set Up

Company accounts

Each wholesale customer becomes a company, with one or more locations and the buyers who can order for them. A café group with four locations is one company, four shipping addresses, and however many people place the orders.

Wholesale pricing

Catalogs and price lists so trade customers see their prices when they log in: a percentage off retail, fixed wholesale prices per product, or volume breaks. Retail customers keep seeing retail prices on the same store.

Quantity rules

Minimums, maximums, and case-pack increments per product, so a retailer orders by the case and nobody buys one unit at the wholesale price.

Payment terms and invoicing

Net terms per company, so approved accounts check out now and pay by invoice later, with due dates tracked. Draft orders and invoices for the customers who still prefer to email you. Invoices can flow into your books through our Shopify QuickBooks integration work.

The ordering experience

Wholesale buyers reorder the same things. We set up quick order lists and a logged-in experience built for speed: find the products, enter quantities, check out. We also set up the wholesale application form and the approval step, so new accounts reach you qualified.

Tax exemptions

Tax IDs and exemptions stored per company location, so resellers are charged correctly. We configure what your accountant specifies.

Do You Need Shopify Plus?

Until recently, native B2B was a Plus-only feature. It isn’t any more. The core of it now ships on Basic, Grow, and Advanced, and that covers most brands starting or formalizing wholesale.

Plus still earns its price for B2B when you need:

  • More than a few catalogs, or pricing assigned company by company.
  • Deposits and partial payments on large orders.
  • A separate wholesale storefront with its own catalog and branding.
  • Checkout customization for B2B-specific rules.

We’ll tell you honestly which side of that line you’re on. If you’re close, our Shopify Plus break-even calculator shows when the upgrade pays for itself, and our Shopify Plus agency page covers the full Plus build.

Wholesale Connected to the Rest of the Business

B2B rarely stops at the storefront. Wholesale orders need to reach the warehouse, the invoices need to reach your books, and price levels often live in an ERP. We build those connections too: NetSuite, QuickBooks, and 3PL and warehouse systems.

FAQs

Do we need Shopify Plus for B2B?

For most brands, no longer. Shopify now includes its core B2B features on the Basic, Grow, and Advanced plans: company accounts, catalogs with wholesale pricing, payment terms, quantity rules, and quick ordering. Plus still matters if you need more than a few catalogs, pricing assigned directly to individual companies, deposits or partial payments, or a separate wholesale storefront. We check what your plan covers before recommending anything.

Should wholesale run on the same store as retail, or a separate one?

One store is simpler and usually right: one catalog, one inventory pool, one set of integrations. Wholesale buyers log in and see their own prices and terms while retail customers see the normal store. A separate store makes sense when the wholesale catalog, branding, or operations are truly different, and it requires Plus. We settle this during the review because it drives everything downstream.

Can wholesale customers pay by invoice on net terms?

Yes. Native B2B supports payment terms such as net 15, 30, or 60 per company. The buyer checks out without paying, the order carries a due date, and you collect by invoice. We set up the terms, the invoice flow, and the reminders, and we can sync those invoices into QuickBooks or your ERP so receivables live where your accountant expects them.

We already use a wholesale app. Should we switch to native B2B?

Sometimes. Native B2B is part of Shopify's checkout and customer accounts, so it tends to be more reliable and works with the rest of the platform. Some apps still do things native B2B doesn't. We compare what you use today against what native covers on your plan, and recommend moving only if it's a clear improvement.

How are taxes handled for wholesale customers?

Company locations can carry tax exemptions and tax IDs, so resellers who shouldn't be charged sales tax aren't. In Canada, GST/HST generally still applies to wholesale sales while provincial sales tax exemptions depend on the province and the buyer. We configure what your accountant specifies. We do not give tax advice.
